Week 9 of Saturday League Cricket, and with it the half way point in the season… and a lot of rain! Amazingly, the 2nd XI were the only team out of six to get any play as they travelled to Wolvercote. The game did look in doubt for a while and was eventually reduced in overs. After winning the toss and bowling first, Thame picked up wickets fairly regularly around Wolvercote batters getting starts. At 100-4 the innings was in the balance, before Ian McStay (4-34) again bowled supremely, alongside Jake Wilkinson (3-46), as the hosts posted 148-9. In the chase, the 2s lost 3 of the top 4 to single figures. James McStay top-scored with 19, but with the target far in the distance, the team managed to scrape a draw at 75-9. Staying in 5th, the team go to 6th Dorchester next.
At the half way stage, the 1st XI are in 8th place in a tight lower half of the table in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2. They host 4th placed Chesham on Saturday. It’s been a tough season for the winless 3rd XI in Cherwell League Division in 6A, but some more encouraging batting performances in the last month gives hope for another great escape! The team travel to 2nd from bottom Bletchley Town 2 in a pivotal match next. In Division 8A, the 4th XI are 8th and will look to push up the table with more wins in the 2nd half of the season, starting with mid-table Watlington 2 next.
Thame Women are just under half-way through their Home Counties Premier League season, and currently sit 4th out of 8. They have a weekend off this weekend, returning to league action against Binfield the following week.
