Thame’s Women made it 2 wins from 2 matches in the Home Counties Women’s Cricket League, with a resounding victory over Cookham Dean at Church Meadow, this past Sunday. Bowling first, Thame put in an impressive display to bowl out Cookham for just 42 – Megs Woodward (3-6) led the figures, while Zara Wyatt and Emily Neighbour took 2 each, in a performance that saw every bowler take at least 1 wicket. Captain Sarah Sanderson scored 13* as Thame chased quickly, for the loss of 2 wickets.
On the Saturday, the 1st XI travelled to Banbury. Asked to bat, Thame struggled to 64 all out – Banbury’s Hill taking 7-17. Will Rooney took 2 early wickets to give Thame a glimmer of hope, but the hosts lost no further wickets and completed the win in the 17th over.
Thame 2 hosted East Oxford at Church Meadow, and winning the toss bowled first. Robbie Jackson, Greg Jenkins and Dan Patey took 2 wickets each, as East Oxford built a strong innings. Jack Aston (4-44) cleaned up the tail, but the visitors posted an impressive 261. Thame found themselves 31-3 early on, before Ben Warwick‘s excellent 70, but wickets fell cheaply around him as the 2s were all out for 154.
Thame 3rd XI hosted West Ilsley at Lord Williams’, and put the visitors into bat. Nick Humphries (4-38) removed both openers for ducks, and Thame dominated from there; ‘Pistol’ Pete Higson and Ian McStay (2-1) taking 2 wickets each to dismiss West Ilsley for just 74. Guy Holmes (27*) and Taylor Vines (26*) then cruised Thame home by 8 wickets.
The 4s went to local rivals Bledlow Ridge 2. In a topsy-turvy match, Trevor Spindler (3-29) took a wicket with the second ball of the match, as Thame kept it tight. Bledlow rallied, but Rob Tomlin‘s late 4-39 fought back. Bledlow posted 161. Tim Dabbs (72) and Charlie Anderson (34) opened for 93, before a mini collapse. Thame then edged close to victory, but 5 quick wickets left all 3 results possible with little overs left. Thame eventually ended 5 runs short with 3 wickets remaining, for a draw.
