League cricket is back in 2026! And so are the new, shorter, sharper weekly roundups!
After a pre-season that saw 1 win, 1 defeat and a 2nd round exit following an opponent forfeit in the T20 Cup, the 1st XI travelled to Wargrave to start their league season. After electing to bat, Thame fell from 60-1 to 74-8. Brad Watson (35) led the wag of the tail to get the score up to 142. Alex Browne (2-15) got early breakthroughs, but from there Wargrave swiftly chased down the target. The 1s host Gerard’s Cross next.
The 2nd XI warmed up with a rain affected defeat at Oxford, before the visit of Bledlow Ridge in the league opener. After opting to bat, Harry Thomas (71) led the way alongside Rob Johnson (43), with a late salvo from Devane Warner (34) to get Thame to 230-6. Archie Gardner (1-17) struck early, but 2 strong partnerships took Bledlow Ridge to the win by 8 wickets. The team go to Oxford & Bletchingdon next.
Thame 3s prepared for the season with a loss at Westcott 2 before the traditional ‘Mashes’ friendly with the 4th XI. Away to Steventon 2s, Thame chose to bowl and never looked back – Sam Ward took 4-8 and Pete Tervet took 3-17 as Steventon were all out for just 48. Adam Culley (23*) sped Thame to a 10 wicket victory. Garsington are the visitors on Saturday.
The 4s hosted Watlington 2 and were put into bat. After stuttering along, Thame were largely indebted to Chris ‘Winkle’ Penny (30) at 8 to get them up to 134. Watlington were going along strongly, until a superb 5-13 from Callum Lord, and 3-9 from debutant Loe Fasanya skittles the visitors for just 66. The 4s next go to Bradenham 2.
Thame Women’s pre-season saw a 6-a-side tournament, before league action at Stony Stratford. After winning the toss and bowling, Megs Woodward (4-20) and Leanne Harris (3-27) spun Stony Stratford out for 129. Woodward (49) put Thame in command, before late jitters at 119-8. The duo of Amber Roy and Angeli Lotay held their nerve to get Thame over the line! The team go to Falkland next.
