Sunday 21st May 2023 – U11s Oxfordshire league matches against Wolverton and Tiddington
The U11 8-aside pairs team travelled to Wolverton in Oxford at the weekend, on a sunny and blustery day. Clement, who was captain for the day made a good start by winning the toss with a paper wrapping stone move and decided to put the opposition in on a wicket that looked like it might turn.
The team bowled well and minimised extras which was a great improvement on the week before. The accurate bowling put pressure on Wolverton, who gave us chances of which two were very close but difficult catches. Teddy kept well on debut as wicket keeper, and Mukil made an excellent run out with a direct hit from the covers.
Wolverton, who were an older and more experienced side batted well and were busy between the wickets.
Fred and Theo opened the batting for Thame and got off to a fast start. Shot of the day, came from Fred, with a glorious on drive which ran for four runs. The team batted well but came unstuck playing across the line to a Wolverton attack who were naggingly consistent with their line and length.
Special mention for Seb who looked very comfortable on his debut in the U11s pairs team and a future prospect for the squad.
Well done all round for an excellent effort and smiles on faces at the end when the ice cream van was spotted!
The U11s 11-aside team played at Home against Tiddington and had an excellent win.
Tiddington batted first and scored 101 for 3 in their 16 overs. Excellent energy in the field and tight bowling from Thame, with wickets for Seth Hayes and Hector De Haan, plus a run out. In reply, Thame started strongly with a 50 partnership from Stanley Rice and Lewis Yeung. After Stan retired 26 not out and Lewis was run out for 17, Harry Doig and Daniel Tilley continued to bat well and saw Thame home with 8 balls and 8 wickets to spare.
Next week we travel to Horspath.
