Junior Roundup – U11s Continue Unbeaten Run in Action-Packed Week for Our Juniors!

Thame U9’s vs. Wendover

Thame 240 / 10 – Wendover 265 / 7 – Loss by 25 runs

The U9 boys made the trip over to Wendover, buoyed by 2 wins on the bounce. Led for the evening by the trio of Tom, Dan & Dan (Thanks gents) they took the field full of the usual energy and enthusiasm!

Deciding to bat first, the relatively long outfield (lacking the finely manicured Thame touch of Charlie and his mower) was proving as much of a challenge as the bowling. Frustration potentially leading to some ‘questionable’ shot selection and running, alongside some excellent catching from the home side causing us to lose regular wickets. Despite this, the boys all batted on gamely with some strong blows from Finley, Oscar and Jack in particular helping us to reach 240 net score.

A defendable score, the ‘instructions’ before going out were to aim to keep extras down to a minimum and back each other up in the field, both of which they did very well! Regular wickets kept us in the game – Oscar took an excellent catch, Jack D, Jack M, Miro & Fin (3) also picking up wickets, but unfortunately some strong batting from Wendover just took the game away from us.

Still not to dampen what’s been a fantastic start to the season, in matches and training. All the boys competing and supporting each other collectively. Bodes well for the rest of the summer!

Girls U11 Softball vs. Haddenham

Thame 319 / 1 – Haddenham 272 / 5 – Win by 47 runs

A fantastic all round performance from Thame girls on a glorious Monday evening at Church Meadow… Having drawn a big away crowd, alongside the ever reliable home support, the girls were keen to put on a performance… Eleanor winning the toss and deciding to mix it up and have a bat…

Her and Olivia (aka Hobbs & Shaw) opened up and got Thame off to a solid start. The highlight of their partnership being Eleanor’s pull for 4 flashing past square leg!! (proud nod of approval from Dad, coach & standing umpire). Darcy and Lucy kept things ticking over together nicely, followed by the left-right combo of Florence and Emmie! Quick running and rotation of strike never allowing the bowlers to settle with some impressive boundary hitting from Florence to accelerate the scoring. Next the Subesinghe twins… the perfect combo… Bethy’s ‘brawn’ + Ez’s elegant strokeplay, in tandem they scored at a lick, scampering every extra run available!! Jemima and Sophia brought the Thame innings to a controlled close, batting very nicely without due risk, taking us to an eventual 319 net score (with the loss of only 1 wicket).

It was a similarly strong all round team effort with the ball. Olivia getting us off to a great start with a wicket in the first over, followed up with good control and general accuracy from all the bowlers. A hatrick of wickets for the 3 E’s – Eleanor, Esme & Emmie (left arm in swing top of off – ball of the night) and a great team run-out kept the Haddenham score in check, with them eventually finishing on 272 Net score.

A great performance and enjoyable game to watch, with the girls showing some real progression already over the early season!

U11s – Oxfordshire Hard Ball League against Goring & Oxford

The U11s took two big scalps at the weekend and beat Oxford (home) and Goring (away). They continue their unbeaten run of 6 league matches and 6 wins. It is somewhat typical that a large part of our success has been down to an Australian, Dad coach and TTCC 2nd XI player Justin Avery, he cooks a mean snagger too!. Albeit, this weekend he left the teams under the careful management of Dan Constant and Dave Lowe, match reports below….

Thame U11s win at Church Meadow v Oxford CC. Thame put into bat by the visitors put on 299 for the loss of 2 wickets, with 29 runs from last pairs Bertie & Jake. Thame fielded exceptionally well keeping the visitors to just 247 and a first wicket for Daniel in a hard ball game.

Thame U11s beat Goring U11s. Goring 257, Thame 281. Great game, two evenly matched sides. Thame bowled and fielded really well. Difference in the end was Thame’s shot selection. Dry feet wickets against a strong Goring bowling line up. All Thame players contributed really well and the coaches were very proud.

U13s

Following the annual maintenance of the nets at the weekend, the U13s worked hard in the 3 lanes during Monday night practice overseen by Dini Malan (overseas pro and 1st XI player), Guy Holmes, James Tilley, Dan Constant & Matt Swain (qualified ECB Dad coaches). 27 of the squad of 35 turned out and were full of beans as usual. This week you can see the U13s in action on Friday night at Home in a league match against Abingdon at 6:30pm. Feel free to come and support and partake in a cold beveragini or two….

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the club sponsors BP Collins, Kubota, J Bennett & Son and Farol for their support of the junior section this season
