Weekly Roundup – 2 matches survive in another rainy week 22/5/21

Like Groundhog Day, this. A wet week leading up to the promise of more rain on Saturday, gave the familiar feeling of ‘Will we? Won’t we?’ for our Saturday Men’s teams. The 1st XI, 2nd XI and 3rd XI all saw their games abandoned before starting, BUT the 4th XI pressed on with just a few minor soggy areas in the field and the hope of avoiding any match-ending downpours.

Hosting Kimble, the 4s opted to bowl. Through the odd drizzle, and even sunny spells, Thame started well, pegging Kimble back to 33-3 – Rob Kenny (2-28) and Ed Mather (2-47) opening strongly. From there each wicket seemed to bring in a bigger hitter; Trevor Spindler took 2-40, but boundaries flowed, taking Kimble up to a Mammoth 273-7. In a tough chase, early wickets fell, which Thame never recovered from and fell to 84 all out – Zed Khan providing the stiffest resistance with 31.

Thame Saxons also managed to beat the weather on Sunday, rearranging a proposed away trip to take on Goring at home. Max Shayler, Lina Budde-Manning and Zed Khan took 2 wickets apiece as Thame bowled Goring out for just 96. In a stuttering chase, Tim Dabbs‘ 19* top-scored and lead the team home by 3 wickets.
