Weekly Roundup – Incredible 2s Comeback Leads Third Straight Unbeaten Saturday on Unbeaten Weekend! 11/12Jul

Week 10 and it was another hot one! The 1st XI welcomed league leaders Wargrave to Church Meadow and were invited to bowl. In an up and down innings, Wargrave put on 52 for the first wicket before slipping to 79-6. From there 111 from Greatwood got Wargrave up to 244-9, with Captain Hassam Mushtaq spinning 5-80. At 84-5 it was looking a tall order for Thame. Shabz Meer (57) and Ubaid Kiani (47) then pushed on to a position where the tail survived to see Thame take 18 points, compared to 15 for the visitors, in the draw at 225-9. On a good run and in 5th, the 1s go to 3rd Gerrards Cross next.

The 2nd XI went to promotion-chasing Bledlow Ridge and were put into bat. Young Daniel Tervet hit 41, but nobody else could get going in 120 all out. With the hosts 78-2, the game was all but over. However, spinning duo Jeremy Batty (5-34) and Muhammed Amin (3-22) ripped through 8 wickets for just 37 runs to give Thame a memorable unlikely victory by just 5 runs! After 3 straight wins, the team are 4th and continue a late promotion push at home to league leaders Oxford & Bletchingdon next!

At Lord Williams’ School the 3s hosted Steventon 2, and put them into bat. 2 wickets apiece for Captain Rob Tomlin and Loe Fasanya had the visitors pegged back, before a brilliant 4-6 from Kulveer Singh brought the innings top an abrupt end on 94. Paul Ager (38) opened strongly as wickets fell at the other end. Singh (31*) rounded his fine day to see Thame win by 4 wickets! Placed 5th, the 3s go to 4th Gaerse Dun next.

Thame 4th XI travelled to Watlington 2 and were invited to bowl first. This proved to be a bad decision; Trevor Spindler (5-5) took another 5for and Chris Penny took 4-8 as the hosts were skittled for just 24. Ben Batty (18*) saw Thame to a 3rd straight 9 wicket victory! 2nd by only a point, the team host 4th Bradenham 2 next.

On Sunday, Thame Women headed to Binfield and were asked to bowl. Harshi Wijerathna (3-23) and Helena Purushothaman (3-37) starred with the ball as the hosts were struggling at 46-6. A 115 run 7th wicket partnership recovered Binfield, and they were eventually all out for 183. At 88-3, the Purushothaman (55*) and Wijerathna (40*) partnership combined to complete a brilliant chase by 7 wickets! In 6th place, the team host 5th Falkland next!

Another unbeaten weekend to go with that of 2 weeks ago, and a 3rd straight unbeaten Saturday!
