U11s Roundup 8 – A Busy Week as League Seasons Draw to a Close

Thursday 6th – Sunday 9th July

It was a busy week for our U11s, with three external fixtures, one internal practice match and a training session all in the space of 4 days.

On Thursday we took an 11 a side team to Aston Rowant for our last League fixture, whilst the rest of the squad trained at Church Meadow. Aston Rowant set 119-5 from their 16 overs, with two wickets for Daniel and one each for Josh and Theo. In our chase we batted very well, but were always a little behind the run rate and finished on 101-3. Lewis retired on 25 and there were useful contributions from Seth, Daniel and Felix. This was our best all round performance of the year, against a strong side, and shows the progression that this largely Year 6 side have made.

On Friday, we took a Pairs team to Henley for a friendly and lost a thriller by 3 runs as TTCC scored 295 in response to Henley’s score of 298. Elizabeth took a wicket, got a run out and scored 24 runs and Theo also scored 24.

On Sunday, the U11s pairs team played their last 2023 league match against Oxford at home. Thame were asked to bat first and clocked up a very decent 130 for the loss of just 3 wickets, Charlie S top scored with 24. The opposition could only make 96 for the loss of 12 wickets. Daniel and Mukil with 3 wickets each, Ryan took 2 and 1 each for Charlie, Lewis, Dylan and Rory which meant Thame won by 96 runs, a resounding victory to finish the season on a high. Not that winning is the most important thing about cricket……

With that win, it means Thame U11 Pairs finished 2nd in the league of the Oxfordshire super 8s pool 8, winning 5 out of 9 matches played: Well done to the whole squad with everyone improving and developing in some or many areas since the start of the season. Big thanks to the coaches in particular Dan, Dini and JP, and scorers Sarah and Alex for all their help.

There was also a parents v kids U11s match at the ground where the remainder of the squad played an ‘out you’re out’ match during which Teddy, Theo, Jack, Hector, Noah, Seth and Stan batted for 26 overs and accumulated over 90 runs.

Never did we know there was so much talent amongst the parents. Notable contributions from Alex with 2 wickets, John with No Balls, Dan with electric fielding off no balls, Paul with a maiden, Adam with bouncers, beamers and sledging, Justin with ‘one which did spin’, Tisiana on debut bowling with line and length. Great fun all round…must do it again!

We will continue throughout the Summer holiday with practice on Thursdays and friendly matches on Sundays (subject to coach availability) – updates on Teamo to follow!

Next U11s team social will be The HUNDRED at Lords, Saturday 12th August, to watch London Spirit v Trent Rockets!
