U11s Roundup 7 – Double-Header Including a Last Ball Finish!

Sunday 2nd July 2023 – U11s league matches:

The U11s had two league matches this Sunday, Home to Tiddington and Away to Horspath.

On a sleepy Church Meadow, following a raucous Summer Picnic Ball the night before, the U11 8-aside pairs team were raring to go.

With 5 U11 players unavailable from the squad this week, Seb and Bertie from the U9s stepped up and held their own against the older, more experienced opposition.

Wickets came at regular intervals and two lovely deliveries from each of Rory and Charlie E sent the bails to Wales, much to the excitement of the crowd and umpire.

Two other wickets came from run outs from Dylan and Clement, albeit some additional fielding practice required this week to focus on backing up, overthrows and nut megs!

On the batting front, the team played well and built decent partnerships from the limited number of deliveries which they could score off. Charlie S and Dylan made 25, Charlie E and Rory made 5, Seb and Tobias made 5 and Clement and Bertie made 14. Charlie S top scored with 14.

Despite coming 2nd, the players took time reflecting during the post-match chat and decided that the umpire, wicket and poor bowling from the opposition were to blame! The team left in good spirits and look forward to training this Thursday.

In the U11s 11 aside game, Thame fell 2 runs short in an exciting run chase at Horspath. Horspath scored 94-7 in their 16 overs, with an excellent run out from Mukil, plus 2 wickets for Josh and one each for Fred, Daniel, Theo and Hector.

Thame’s reply always looked like it was going to go to the final overs with contributions throughout the order, particularly Stan and Seth. With 4 runs needed to tie off the last ball Thame fell just short.

Great spirit throughout and the team enjoyed being part of a nail biting finish.

This week we play Aston Rowant (boooo!) on Thursday, Henley on Friday and Oxford on Sunday.
