The under 11s notched up another significant victory at the weekend putting Oxford & Bletchingdon Non descripts to the sword twice in two consecutive weeks. Having had to cancel the originally scheduled fixtures planned earlier in the season for availability and then rain, we re-arranged them back to back at their place Sunday 21st July and at The Meadow on Sunday 28th July.
The win was significant because the U11s have now played 14 competitive league fixtures of which they have won 9 giving them a win ratio of 64%, which is amongst the highest of any team at the club (not that we are counting).
This season we had a squad of 30 and in order to provide as many players as possible an opportunity to play in as many league matches as possible we:
– entered two U11 8 aside pairs teams into Pool 5 and Pool 6 of the Oxfordshire league
– played 10 aside when possible
– put on extra Sunday morning practice for those not selected
In Pool 6, we have completed our fixtures and finished 2nd behind Goring, who only lost one match this season which was against us at Home.
In Pool 5, we have one more game to play against Oxford who currently sit top of the table, if we can beat them at Church Meadow we will finish top of the Pool.
But it’s not all about winning, it’s also about building a team spirit and developing a group of players who want to play cricket all the time, come to practice all the time and want to play matches all the time ………..to win!
We do not stream the teams at U11s and each week during selection for both teams we did our best to spread the year groups (Yr5 & Yr6) and experience with the availability and some rotation (Home matches proving more popular than Away).
In addition to this, some of the more experience U11s have played for the U13s and we have introduced some of the more experienced U9s into the U11s to start to play hard ball cricket as they transition next year
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the U11 coaches Dan Constant, Justin Avery, John Patey, Dini Malan, Guy Holmes and Dave Lowe plus all the scorers Alex Pring, Toby Idle and Sarah Stewart. And ground team Max and Charlie for providing us with an excellent track and outfield to play on (no wonder more people prefer home matches!)
The TTCC Junior section end of season awards event will be held on Friday 13th September at the club. Bar: 5pm. Awards Ceremony: 6pm Finish 8pm
We hope that as many players, family and friends can join us to finish off what has been another very successful season at TTCC.
