U11s Roundup 6 – Another Big Win, on a Scorching Day at Church Meadow!

Sunday 25th June 2023 – U11s league match against Kidlington

The U11 team played at home on Sunday morning, in a 10-aside Pairs match against Kidlington.

The match was played on the new Junior wicket at the bottom of the ground. The additional Junior wicket has been developed as part of a long-term plan to make more use of our expansive real estate at Church Meadow. This will allow us to accommodate more than one match or practice at the same time, as the club expands. On Sunday, we also had an U13s match on the main square and Thame Tigers played a softball match on the outfield next to the Aylesbury road.

Massive Big thanks go out to Max and Charlie, for all the hard work they have done on the junior wicket and the entire ground over the last 4 / 5 years to make this possible.

So, after the warmup (moving the sight screens) Lewis was made captain for the day and immediately lost the toss! But was asked to field, which is what he wanted to do anyway.

Thame’s pace attack was brutal and they took Kidlington scalps at regular intervals. After 20 overs they had taken 10 wickets. 8 bowled and 2 run outs. 1 wicket each for Lewis, Fred, Hector, Sam & Charlie but the pick of the bowlers was Clement who took 3 wickets for 5 runs off his two overs. Special mention to Felix who bowled a maiden and got two run outs, and for Teddy who kept wicket very well against many experienced players. Kidlington were restricted to 260.

In response, Thame piled on the runs early doors. After their allotted four overs, Lewis and Sam made a partnership of 27. Clement and Charlie made 22, Fred and Theo made 17, Jack and Teddy made 17 and Hector and Mukil 10. Lewis top scored with 20. Kidlington fielded well, with direct hits and took 8 wickets in total (4 run outs – this Thursday’s training session) and 4 wickets, bowled.

Overall though Thame’s accurate bowling only gave away 8 wides / no balls in their 20 overs, compared to Killington’s 31. Thame finished on 366 and another 100-run victory.

Next Sunday we have two matches, playing Horspath away and Tiddington at home.
