A young and athletic Thame Town 1st XI comfortably beat local rivals Horspath last Saturday, by 40
runs, in the Home Counties Premier League, to reach the final of the John Goodman Plate, in which
they will face Henley this Saturday 19th, at Church Meadow, Thame.
Thame finished top of their group during the pool stage of the 40-over competition, hence the home
advantage for the final. The match will start at 11:30am and the bar will open at the same time.
Mike Beard 1st XI captain, 40 over competition, “whilst I won’t be able to lead this group of legends
at the weekend, it’s been a fantastic year and to finish with silverware would be fitting. I’ve heard
some talk from the locals saying “it’s just the plate final”, but let me tell them, if they’re reading,
we’re still fighting for this title and Henley have got to come to The Meadow and get something, and
I’ll tell you, honestly, I’ll love it if we beat them, love it.”
Meanwhile, in the T20 arena, last Sunday, Thame beat Cumnor in Oxfordshire’s Wilf Bennett T20
competition to reach the final against Witney Mills. This match will be played at Banbury CC’s ground
in White Post Road, Banbury (OX15 4BN) from 10:30am this Sunday 20th.
Will Sutcliffe, the T20 captain, said “I’m looking forward to defending our T20 title this weekend and
I’m feeling pretty confident going into Sunday. Our previous success in this competition and our
performances during this season put us in a good position” .
Overall, the club has had another very successful season in which the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI all won their
