Junior Roundup – More Wins, A Finals Day to Come and Making Strides at the Next Level!

U13 Boys beat Tiddington to reach Finals Day of the Ron Maudsley Cup

Tiddington 106-7 (20), Thame 108-5 (13.5)

Our U13s Boys team put Tiddington to the sword last Friday night at Church Meadow, in front of a capacity crowd. After blowing away the top order and reducing them to 30 for 4, the opposition dug in but could only muster 106 from their 20 overs.

Whilst the T20 match format allows for a maximum of 4 overs to be bowled by 5 different bowlers, we wanted to include as many players in as much action as possible and bowled everyone for two overs each (n.b. For finals day this policy may change depending on how ruthless the team are feeling, whilst remembering that it’s not all about winning, but it’s mostly about winning).

Thame’s 10 bowlers bowled well, despite giving away 13 wides and 6 no balls, which will need some tidying up ahead of the finals because it could easily make the difference of lifting the cup. Wickets were shared around and Hector made best bowling figures of 2-1-2-2.

In reply, Thame made short work of the chase as they crashed, banged and walloped the ball around the park to win by 5 wickets with 6 overs to spare – Daniel top scored with 29.

Finals day will be held at St Edwards School this Sunday 6th July. Thame will play a semi final against Goring at 1pm

If they win they are through to the final at 4pm against the winner of Oxford v Chalbury. Good luck dudes, make us proud!

Boys U9s beat Haddenham by 54 runs on Sunday 29th June Away (10 aside pairs softball)

Thame 170 / 6 (20), Haddenham 111/5 (20).

An excellent all round performance, with several developing players raising their games and everyone playing their part in a great spirited game. Top scorers were James (30*), Albie (21) and Rory S (14). Wickets came from Max, Tom, Rory, Albie and a run out from James.

Girls U13s beat Steventon by 17 runs at Home on Monday 30th June (8 aside pairs hardball)

Thame 264 / 5 (16), Steventon 247 / 8 (16).

A strong week for the girls saw our oldest cohort making their first foray into U13 hardball league action, with back to back wins against Warborough and Steventon. In both matches the girls were excellent with bat and ball, but equally pleasing was the fantastic team effort, encouragement and support for one another throughout!

Keep track of their progress in the Oxfordshire league table

Mixed intra club Junior Hard Ball match on Sunday 29th June at Home

Such is the growth and success of the Junior section at the club, we now have close to 300 junior playing members from All Stars to U13s (and a waiting list), which means demand for playing in matches is at an all time high. A key focus area for the club coaches and team managers this season is the transition from soft to hardball, which happens formally with the U11 league (year 5 & 6).

We are now actively executing on plans to introduce kids from the U9s and Dynamos into this hard ball format, starting with pairs and then moving onto 11-aside (you’re out, you’re out).

So that we can keep up with demand, and in particular the transition from soft to hard ball, we scheduled a friendly mixed 10-a-side Junior hard ball intra club game on Sunday morning. This gave many of the Boys and Girls an opportunity for the first time to get fully padded up and test their skills against the harder ball in a match situation, but in a safe and relaxed environment with their friends.

Everyone had a bat and a bowl and it was excellent to see all the kids naturally supporting each other and playing as a team, in particular it was great to see Charlie S make his hardball match debut this weekend, well played Charlie!

If you would like any further information about how you can help us support your child with the transition from soft to hardball please contact your team manager.
