Junior Roundup – 6 League Matches, 3 Adult Cricket Debuts and a Festival!

Thame Juniors had a busy second week of league action and made the most of the sunshine with 6 junior league fixtures and a festival, plus three of our U13s (year 8) made their debut in the Cherwell adult Cricket league.

On Thursday, the U13s had two away fixtures scheduled, and with a squad of 35 we were able to put two XI-a-side teams out fairly comfortably. Both teams performed well at Aston Rowant and Dinton but two losses unfortunately, such is the rollercoaster of topflight junior cricket!

On Saturday, three of our Year 8 U13s played in their TTCC adult Cherwell league match debuts. Josh and Harvey playing with the 4th XI at Home (LWS upper school) against Aston Rowant and Sam playing with the 3rd XI away at Bicester.

All three players performed brilliantly amongst the seasoned pros, who offered plenty of support and encouragement and were ‘buzzing’ after their matches. In total, we currently have 8 year 8 players who are willing and able to play adult cricket this season, and there will be plenty of opportunities during the rest of the season for them to take their first step onto the adult cricket pathway at TTCC.

Tim Dabbs TTCC Chair said, “Big congratulations to all the juniors who made their senior debut this weekend! A great achievement for the clubs junior section and testament to the pathway”.

Also worth noting that we had 12 juniors play in ‘The Mashes’ (annual warm up game between TTCC 3rd XI v 4th XI) on Bank holiday Monday

On Sunday we took:

– an U9 Boys 10 aside team to Bledlow and won.
– an U9 Girls team played in a softball festival at Brightwell Cum Sotwell won 2 and lost 1. 20 girls in action with 8 of the team making debuts.
– an U11 Girls team to Chalfont and lost by a small margin.
– an U11 Boys 8-aside (hard ball) team to Abingdon and ‘thrashed them’ and an U11 10-aside (hard ball) team to Kidlington and won by 34 runs.

So far this season, the U11 Boys, under the management of Justin Avery, Andy Hobbs and Dave Lowe (ECB qualified Dad coaches) have played four and won four and are seriously looking to beat last seasons win %…………can they do it !?

Update from our Oxfordshire pathway players: From the Girls, Congratulations to Edie and Chloe on making their Oxfordshire debuts at the weekend.

Also worth noting that during the week, LWS Year 7 played an 8 aside hard ball fixture against Oxford Spires Academy and comfortably beat them by 87 runs. 5 of the team play for TTCC. It’s fantastic to see school and club coming together in these matches and our 3rd and 4th XI fixtures. We would like to take this opportunity to thank LWS for working with us and committing to improve and develop the facilities and partnerships between club and school in Thame.
