Weekly Roundup – Tons for Patey & Thomas in Big 2s Win, 1st XI Chase Down First Victory 30/31May

The last weekend in May and Thame 1st XI were looking for a first win at home to Challow & Childrey. Thame opted to bowl. The visitors reached 178-1 before a run-out and 3-62 from Captain Hassam Mushtaq wrestled momentum away and the innings ended on 290-7. Shahbaz Meer (91) led the chase before Ubaid Kiani (68*), alongside swift knocks by Mushtaq (38) and Dinny Malan (32), got Thame the win by 4 wickets with 22 balls spare. The 1s remain 9th and go to mid-table Ickenham next.

Looking for back-to-back wins, the 2nd XI were away at Bicester & North Oxford 2 and chose to bat. It was a memorable day for George Patey (110) and Harry Thomas (100*) in an imperious 189 2nd-wicket partnership, as Thame posted 285-5. Pacemen Archie Gardner and Captain Robbie Jackson took 2 wickets each to put Thame in command. Muhammed Amin spun 2, before Jeremy Batty (3-17) starred to have the hosts all out for 127. The 2s move up to 5th and host leaders Buckingham Town 2 next.

Thame 3s hosted East Oxford 3 at Lord Williams’ School and were put into bat. Quasim Zaman (33) and Paul Ager (30) were among many batters to get starts, before the tail was blown away to 189. Nick Humphries (2-36) got early wickets, backed up by Aaron Watson (2-32) and Sam Ward (2-45) to put Thame on top. However, strong 7th and 8th wicket partnerships took the visitors to the target by 3 wickets. Sitting 8th, the team go to leaders Frieth 2 next.

The unbeaten 4th XI headed to Oxenford 4 and chose to bowl. Chris ‘Winkle’ Penny (3-28) led the way and there were 2 apiece for Captain Ed Mather and Shay Reading before a frustrating 35 partnership for the final wicket got Oxenford up to 147 all out. Thame were looking good at 82-2 with Will Littlewood (20), but thereafter nobody reached double figures in 118 all out. A first defeat, but the 4s stay top and next host 3rd Chesterton & Wendlebury 2.

On Sunday, Thame Women travelled to Berkhamsted, won the toss and fielded. Berkhamsted reached 54 without loss, but Thame took over from there thanks to Leanne Harris (4-49) and Harshi Wijerathna (3-20). Megs Woodward (2-0) polished off the innings at 104 all out. Wijerathna (26) top scored in reply, but a collapse saw Thame all out for 71. Placed 6th out of 8, the team go to 5th-placed Moreton next.
