U11s Roundup 1 – Match Action and Sunshine Arrive!

The sun came out for the U11s Home friendly interclub match on Sunday 5th May.

This season we have a very lively squad of 30 kids from Year 5 & 6, who have had 3 practice sessions so far and this was their first match on the square at Church Meadow this season.

No-one disappointed, in fact they all did brilliantly well and it was great to see the more experienced players helping and supporting the kids that have moved up from U9s.

A number of the squad have not played hard ball cricket before and are getting to grips with pads, helmets, boxes, gloves etc thanks to a treasure trove of club kit, all the debutants were able to find kit to fit them if they didn’t have their own.

Both the scheduled league matches (home to Wolverton (opposition were playing in a rugby tournament and couldn’t get a side out ! and away at Kidlington where the ground was water logged) were postponed so we took the opportunity for all the available kids, 18 in total to have a friendly pairs match.

Everyone had a bat and a bowl and fielded, there were runs and boundaries scored, wickets were taken including some excellent caught and bowled, run outs, stumpings and hearty appeals for LBW…..not out!

They were happy to be there and can’t wait for the next matches on Sunday 13th – selection will be tough for the team coaches!

The season is truly under way, and we look forward to seeing you all on Thursday night for practice.

Thanks to Max and Charlie for preparing the wicket for us which played with excellent even bounce and carry, and to all the family and friends supporters in attendance – never know the bar might be open next time!
