1st XI valiantly attempt to defend low total in vain
A mixed performance from Thame 1st XI, saw them lose an important game to local rivals Aston Rowant last Saturday, as they failed to post a defendable total. After being put in to bat on a damp pitch, the innings started poorly as captain Higgs was dismissed first ball and then Macdonald went 3rd ball. Thame scored quickly but lost wickets regularly, finally being dismissed for 88 in 20 overs with Will Sutcliffe scoring 32.
In reply, excellent spells from Will Rooney and Sam Lachlan left Rowant reeling at 41-6, but a half century from Miles Hammond was enough to get Aston Rowant over the line. Thame entertain Buckingham Town at Church Meadow this weekend.
Inspired bowling performance by Penny not enough for 2nd XI
Thame 2nd XI went into Saturday’s home game vs Leighton Buzzard 2nds in high spirits with an unbeaten record but ended the day in a very different mood, despite Chris Penny’s (pictured right) standout performance. The visitors were asked to bat first and the opener, Scott, rode his luck, hitting in the air repeatedly to reach 62. They then collapsed from 120-2 to 143 all out, thanks to Penny’s 7 for 55, from 15.2 overs, with Ali Thomas (2) and Ian McStay (1) taking the rest.
The signs were there that the pitch was not playing easily and Thame duly started slowly. Only Harry Thomas (21) and Furness (20) looked at ease and once they were out the innings petered out to 91 all out. Thame remain top but must look to bounce back at Chearsley this Saturday 11th.
3rds remain unbeaten as George Patey stars with bat and ball
The 3’s fielded a strong XI and convincingly beat Dinton in the local derby by 112 runs. Thame were put into bat, and after a slow start on a challenging wicket, scored 207 largely due to a 56 not out by George Patey (pictured below). There were also contributions by Guy Holmes (35) and Liam Earwicker (26) before an entertaining quickfire 31 by Robbie Jackson at the end.
In the field, the opening bowlers Scott Chappell and James McStay immediately put pressure on Dinton and wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Man of the Match, George Patey, once again starred taking 5 wickets for 23 runs and was ably supported by Jackson’s 2-13. The visitors ended the innings on 95.
